Medford Doesn’t Need a Casino
The Coquille Tribe’s proposed casino is built on false promises, misleading information and will only benefit one tribe at the expense of the residents of Medford. If approved, acres of commercial property would be taken off the tax rolls, reducing funding for local schools, public safety and other services, and open the door to unlimited gaming across Jackson County as well as up and down I-5.
The property by the sports park and residential neighborhoods is 170 miles away from their reservation in Coos Bay and was initially proposed as a small facility, but now is likely to be 20 times larger as the Coquille have secretly purchased more than 45 acres of private land adjacent to the original site.
If approved by the federal government, the proposed development would be twice the size of any other Tribal casino in Oregon. There would be no legal requirements for revenue sharing with the local community and any promise of jobs is speculative as it would likely put local restaurants, lodging and other small companies out of business.
Join the opposition from local and state officials who do not want to see the proliferation of gaming across Oregon, putting profits in pockets of out-of-state interests at the expense of what is best for Oregonians.
